Pune at a Glance... !!



Pune lies in the close proximity (only 170 km) of Mumbai, the financial capital of India, and is a beautiful place located at an altitude of 560 m on the Sahyadri hills in Maharashtra state of India. The city covering an area of 700 sq km with a population of around 4.5 million is the 8th largest city of India, and the 2nd most populous city of Maharashtra. The large student population in the city makes for a lively nightlife and vibrant atmosphere. Pune also houses fantastic restaurants, good museums and is well known for its surrounding hill forts which offer panoramic bird's-eye views.

Lonavala and Khandala: One of the very known of hill station is Lonavala. As the place is popularly known, it will be wise to list the points or places that are worth visiting here. Lonavala is very famous for Chikki.  INS Shivaji - A Navy training center also makes Lonavala a vital place. Many well known Boarding schools are located nearby Lonavala. There are lots of Dams, caves and forts in and around Lonavala and Khandala.





Malshej Ghat: Malshej Ghat is among the most popular outing spot from Pune. This place is located amidst the sahyadri Hills. This place is popular among the local as well as other tourists. It is a perfect place for nature lovers, where they can spend their holidays. Malshej Ghat is one of the beautiful Hill stations of Maharashtra. There are many beautiful locations and some beautiful waterfalls which tourists to fall in love with this place.


Rajmachi Rajmachi (Udhewadi) is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in India. There are two forts which were built by Shivaji Emperor during 17th century. It is a famous spot for trekking. It is about 15 km treking distance from Lonavla. Rajmachi can be reached by 2 ways, the tough route from Kondivade village near Karjat and the other easy but long way route from Lonavala. In rainy season this place is filled with giant waterfalls and greenery.

Gliding Centre Pune. Go for a joy ride in a glider and experience flying like a bird. Get an aerial view of Pune at a very nominal cost of Rs 187 only. You can also learn to fly gliders at the Gliding Centre, which is India's oldest and till date the most active hub for gliding. The centre is located at Hadapsar on the eastern side of the city. Flying activity is conducted from Sunday through Thursday.

Paragliding School & Flying Club. Located an hrs drive from Pune at Kamshet Learn to para-glide with Nirvana India's oldest and largest residential paragliding school . Flying activity is on from October - June .



Panshet Water Park At a nearby dam, the tourism department has setup a water sports park.
Horse riding and go out for horse treks with Digvijay Pratishthan.

Tekdi - is the Marathi word for hill. There are many small scenic hills in the city used for trekking and birdwatching Notable among are Taljai(Near Parvati), Hanuman &Vetal Tekdi(near Law College Road, Paud Phata)

Bird Watching:Tourists can enjoy boating and bird viewing in some of the city parks of Pune. Migratory parks can viewed throughout the year in Pune. If tourists can make it on the right time they can view many migrated birds in the parks.

Trekking: Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary in pune, offers a thrilling and amazing trekking experience for the nature lovers. This wildlife sanctuary has two trekking trails available Seedi Ghat and Ganpati Ghat, out of these two Ganpati Ghat is a longer and less dangerous trekking path.

Punes Premier Riding school, Japalouppe is spread out over a picturesque 19 acres, with a team of 60 horses catering to a wide skill set of riders, from basic trotting and school work to advanced jumping and dressage.

Pune Heritage Walk, MCCIA, Senapati Bapat Marg, Pune, 020-2570 9013. Go for heritage walk jointly oragnized by Janwani and Pune Muncipal Corporation . Its a 3 hour walk starting from the PMC main building. The walk extends into the core city area of Old Pune.This 2.5 km walk is multi-thematic wherein people can learn about the 2000 years old history of Pune and visit 18 spots of architectural, historical and cultural importance.The walk is conducted in three major languages- Marathi, Hindi and English. Apart from an information brochure, participants are given refreshments by Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale. The walk ends with a unique cultural experience through Maharashtrian folk events like Powada, Gondhal, Bharud etc organized inside a heritage Wada.
